QUESTION: Juan Rivera, you have done so many interesting things. What thing have you enjoyed the most and why? ANSWER from Juan Rivera on October 31, 1995: Well, thank you. I've been fortunate to have been able to work in areas that interested me for quite a long time now. I'm a very curious sort of person and working in the TV news business allowed me to stick my nose into areas that I found interesting and get paid for it too! I used to really love that work. I've been able to spend time with some really fastenating people -- all sorts of politicians from presidents on down, military test pilots, captains of industry... you name it. I've also been to all sorts of places that people can't normally get to like in the middle of a forest fire or inside of some scientist laboratory while he explains some new discovery. And of course I've had a chance to fly on some pretty interesting airplanes. I've flown twice with the Canadian Snow Birds who fly a 9-plane formation at air shows to promote the Canadian Military like out Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds do for the U.S. And working on the KAO has also been a great experience. In many ways it has been the most interesting job I've ever had. We've been to New Zealand, Australia, Easter Island, Brazil, and hawaii too! There is something very special about working on a big aircraft like the KAO that can pick you up and take you anywhere on earth along with all your friends and their equipment. Deploying to New Zealand for a month or two with our whole group would have to be right at the top of my all time list of great events. Probably the flight I will remember the longest was out of Australia during the impacts of Comet Shoemaker/Levi 9. We were able to witness an event that no one had ever seen before. One of the atronomers gave a little speech as we were heading home from that flight and told us that she had been doing research for most of her adult life and that that flight was the high point of her career. To have been there and been a real part of making that happen for her was a very special moment. Juan Rivera
