Profiles of Featured Women

We invite boys and girls to join us and learn more about these exceptional women who are featured in our interactive Chats and Forum. This week is devoted to fostering an appreciation for international perspectives that will better prepare our youth to participate in the world's interdependent high-tech economy and the global scientific community.

Below is the current list of confirmed women for online events. As you can imagine, many of our NASA women have schedules that change on a daily basis due to the variable nature and location of their work. Below the confirmed women, are additional women that we are working on scheduling. As we confirm events for them, it will be reflected here and in the schedule.


tahani amer photo Tahani Amer - Aerospace Engineer / Langley Research Center - Tahani works in the Aerodynamic Measurement Branch, developing instruments and sensors that measure the parameters needed to design new airplanes. She started her college education in medical school in Cairo, Egypt. She received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering in the United States and is currently pursuing her doctorate. She has been working with NASA for eight years and has four children.

kathryn clark photo Kathryn Clark, Ph.D - Chief Scientist, International Space Station / NASA Headquarters - As chief scientist, Kathryn coordinates the national and international research communities and serves as the advocate for research on the NASA Advisory Committees and Subcommittees responsible for the oversight of the International Space Station and related programs.

lynn cline photo Lynn Cline - Deputy Associate Administrator for International Relations / NASA Headquarters - Lynn will discuss the evolution of the International Space Station partnership and what each country is contributing; as well as her representation of NASA's programs worldwide, most notably the United Nations Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

carol davies photo Carol Davies - Research Scientist / NASA Ames Research Center - Carol was schooled in England and worked in England for a year before coming to the U.S. to begin work for NASA. She moved to the Republic of Singapore where she taught Statistics and Computer Science at the University of Singapore for four years. Carol also speaks fluent Spanish.

patricia moore photo Patricia Moore - Operations Lead / Moscow and Johnson Space Center - Patti is an Ops Lead for a new "Consultant Group" of NASA called the Houston Support Group for the International Space Station operations. She works in the Russian Mission Control Center in Moscow. Her duties are to facilitate communications and data exchange between the Russian Flight Control Team and the U.S. Flight Control Team in Houston. She will be chatting live from Moscow!

We invite you to read the profiles of additional NASA women that bring an international perspective through their background and work. These women have also been invited to participate in our week's activities and we are working with their schedules.
estella hernandez gillette photo Estella Hernandez Gillette - Director of Equal Opportunity Programs / Johnson Space Center - Estella immigrated to the U.S. when she was 2 years. Her parents encouraged her to appreciate her Mexican heritage and Spanish language but also stressed the importance of loving her new country and doing those things that best demonstrate good citizenship. In addition to the Director of Equal Opportunity Programs, she is on the astronaut review board.
rosaly lopes-gautier photo Rosaly Lopes-Gautier- Science Coordinator for the Near Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (NIMS) of the Galileo Flight Project / Jet Propulsion Laboratory - Rosaly was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and left Brazil at the age of 18 to study astronomy at the University of London. During her studies she became a specialist on the hazards from lava flows and traveled to erupting volcanoes in Italy and Hawaii, some of the time as a member of the UK Volcanic Eruption Surveillance Team. Currently she is responsible for planning all of the observations of Jupiter's volcanic moon Io using NIMS. She has a seven-year-old son.

fanny zuniga photo Fanny Zuniga - Aerospace Engineer / Ames Research Center - As an aerospace engineer, Fanny works on a project that involves developing a computer simulation of the docking maneuver between the space shuttle and space station. She grew up in a single-parent family which had just immigrated to this country from Latin America and experienceslanguage difficulties, cultural barriers and financial difficulties. She holds a M.S. in erospace engineering and is currently working to realize this ultimate dream.
